I use pmcia slot on my mill many times a day, the key to maintaining the pins IMHO is to use an adapter, plug it in and dont take it in and out, pop the flash cards in and out of it.

Keep spare adapters on hand. And cards for that matter. I see other guys using adapters over the years and it irks me to see them pull the adapter, then insert the flash card, then plug the adapter back in, just begging for a bent pin.
